The Journey
Seven Steps, One Story
Mining
Miners dig shafts and pits into gem-bearing gravel — illam — typically 3–10 metres below the surface, then wash it in a nearby stream to reveal what the earth was hiding.
Rough Stone
Raw crystals are examined for potential colour, clarity, and size. Experienced sorters decide, stone by stone, whether it will be sold rough or sent on for cutting.
Dealer / Trading
Rough and cut stones change hands through trusted dealer networks — the backbone of Sri Lanka's gem trade, built on relationships that often span generations.
Cutting & Polishing
A skilled cutter shapes the rough into its final form, maximising colour return. A well-cut stone can outperform a poorly cut one of identical rough quality.
Treatment
Some stones are heat-treated to improve colour and clarity — a widely accepted practice. Every treatment is disclosed, never hidden.
Certification
The finished stone is assessed by a recognised laboratory — GIA, GRS, Gübelin, or SSEF — for species, colour, clarity, origin, and treatment status.
Export
Certified stones are insured and shipped door-to-door, carrying their full provenance with them from Sri Lanka to collections around the world.

The traditional gem trade involves many intermediaries between miner and buyer. Each step adds cost and reduces accountability. We work to keep our supply chain as short as possible — ideally miner → us → you.
We know the names of the miners who found many of the stones we sell. That's not marketing — it's how we ensure the conditions we won't accept (child labour, unsafe mines, unfair wages) aren't present in what we sell.
