Wedding Ring Guide
Choosing and stacking wedding bands — practical guidance from metal pairing to setting styles.
Band Types
Stacking Options
Flush Fit Band
Designed with a curved or shaped profile to sit flush against an engagement ring. Eliminates gaps and prevents the rings from spinning on the finger. Custom made to match the specific engagement ring profile.
Straight Band
A classic straight wedding band worn alongside the engagement ring. A small gap may appear on curved engagement rings. Simple, timeless, and easy to resize independently.
Full Eternity Band
Stones go all the way around the band. Maximum sparkle. Cannot be resized — measure the finger at multiple times of day and season before ordering.
Half Eternity Band
Stones only on the visible top half of the band. Can be resized. More practical for daily wear as stones are not underneath the finger.
Gemstone Set
Wedding bands set with coloured gemstones rather than diamonds. Can match the centre stone of the engagement ring, or complement it with a contrasting colour.
Plain Metal Band
No stones. Matte, satin, or high-polish finish options. Hammered and brushed finishes are contemporary alternatives. Pairs with any engagement ring without competing.
Metal Pairing
Matching Metals
The conventional advice is to match the metal of the engagement ring. This prevents wear marks — different metals wear each other unevenly over time.
Mixed metals are increasingly popular. Wearing a yellow gold band against a platinum engagement ring is a deliberate design choice many find beautiful. If mixing metals, have both rings made by the same jeweller to ensure the profiles are compatible.
Ensure both rings are the same carat weight (e.g., both 18K) to ensure similar wear rates.
Sizing
Getting the Right Fit
When to measure
Measure in the afternoon — fingers are typically at their largest then. Avoid measuring first thing in the morning or after heavy exercise.
Temperature effect
Fingers can change by half a size between summer and winter. If you live in a climate with large seasonal variation, consider sizing for the middle.
Eternity bands
Cannot be resized. Measure at least three times on different days and times before ordering a full eternity band.
Comfort fit
The inside edge of a comfort-fit band is rounded, reducing friction. More comfortable for daily wear, but requires a half-size larger than standard.
